Best Friends raise money for wildlife charity ransacked by thieves

Kindhearted members of Best Friends Veterinary Group’s practice in Leicester have raised money for an animal shelter charity ransacked by thieves.

Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital suffered thousands of pounds of losses and damage when thieves broke in to the Kibworth site stealing valuable equipment and food earlier this year.

The charity is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of sick, injured, orphaned and distressed wild animals and birds.

Best Friends Veterinary Group’s practice team in Glenfield Road regularly partner with Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital with the charity taking in sick and injured animals, including birds and baby squirrels, brought to the practice.

When the team heard about the break-in at the hospital building they immediately wanted to raise money to help the charity to get back on its feet.

All proceeds from discounted nail clips for pets and a collection box left on the reception desk helped the practice to raise £232.95 for the charity.

Veterinary nurse Jade Jennings said: “It was heartbreaking to find out the Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital had been broken into.

“The charity’s team of volunteers work tirelessly to look after all the animals that are in their care so we really wanted to do our bit to help the charity out.

“Our customers were very generous with the collection and took up the offer of reduced-price nail clips for their pets.

“We hope the money goes some way to making sure the charity can get back to normal and continue its excellent work.”

Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital founder Angela Downham said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported Best Friends Veterinary Group’s fundraising for us and we are truly overwhelmed by your support.”

“We are incredibly humbled by everyone’s support after our break-in. To lose most of our food stocks that we have been building up for the busy spring and summer seasons was absolutely devastating.

“Rescue and care equipment was also targeted leaving us unable to attend certain rescues because of it.

“However, because of lots of kind and generous help, we are getting our supplies back to normal.”
