Pets are an important part of our families and should they become ill or have an accident we want to make sure they are well and back on the road to recovery as soon as possible.

However, medical care, particularly for a very sick or injured animal, can prove to be expensive which is why here at Best Friends we advise clients to take out insurance.

One example we give is that should your dog develop hip dysplasia, it could cost £2000 – £3000 to correct the problem. How many of us can afford a bill like this?

The same applies to cats. Should your pet suffer a broken leg you could be looking at a bill of between £800 and £2000.

It is always best to take out insurance to prevent these hefty bills but read the small print when choosing an insurance policy to make sure it meets your needs, for example that a condition is covered for life not just a year.
